At Prysmian, we strive to differentiate ourselves through having short lead times, high stock levels, cut to length services and superior quality – but our biggest competitive edge, will always be our people. To attract and keep hard working and valuable people, we must focus on not only training and development, but also on recognising that they have human needs.
Tamika Costas is one of the hardworking Internal Sales Coordinators, we are lucky to have within our Power Distribution team. Our internal sales teams are responsible for liaising with customers throughout the whole order process, from managing call centre operations, to processing orders and providing updates on cable production, to providing after-sales support. Like many roles this can be both full on and stressful day in and day out – so to provide our employees at our Liverpool site with some time away from their desk or work station (with their co-workers and often outside in the sun), we offer 4 sessions of boot camp and 1 session of yoga a week. Tamika has been going to the Wednesday yoga session since she started with us two years ago, “it’s great that Prysmian offers things such as boot camp and yoga. I’ve been doing Yoga almost every Wednesday since I started, and I love it.”
Tamika is now 6 months pregnant, which comes with frequent check-ups, scans and other things that may pop up. This is often a stressful time for expecting mothers, as they try to balance their needs with the needs of the company they work for. But Tamika explained that her co-workers have been very supportive during this time, “my team leader has been really flexible with me needing time off, and the team has also been supportive. It makes things so much easier knowing I can do what I need to, without feeling pressure from them.”
Unfortunately, Tamika will be leaving us in a few weeks times, as she relocates to sunny Darwin with her family. We wish her all the best with the adventure ahead!
